TALENTS: builds coalitions, teacher, researcher analyst
Mary Bufwack has served as CEO of United Neighborhood Health Services for 25 years. United Neighborhood is a private non profit providing comprehensive primary care and prenatal services to over 25,000 underserved and vulnerable residents of Nashville and middle Tennessee through a network of 11 primary care clinics, including services for those who are homeless. United Neighborhood has care management programs for prenatal patients and those with chronic conditions as well an integrated dental and behavioral health services.
Mary’s work with UNHS was preceded by her work as program coordinator with the Nashville YWCA Domestic Violence Program and a faculty position at Colgate University in upstate New York. Mary has been recognized for her work by the U.S. Bureau of Primary Health Care, the Tennessee Primary Care Association and the National Association of Community Health Centers. She was honored in 2009 by the Center for Non-profit Management as CEO of the Year. In 2014 Mary was elected to Chair the Board of Directors of Nashville General Hospital.
Mary holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis. Bufwack is co-author with her husband, music journalist, Robert K. Oermann, of a book, Finding Her Voice, 100 Years of Women in Country Music.
